The making of Alicia Vikander's Louis Vuitton gown for the Academy Museum Gala
Sunday evening saw the 2023 Academy Museum Gala take place in Los Angeles, an event which this year honoured Meryl Streep, Michael B. Jordan, Oprah Winfrey and Sofia Coppola – and saw more than its fair share of fabulous fashion, including plenty of festive-inspired looks.
In attendance was actress Alicia Vikander, who wore a beautiful sheer gown by Louis Vuitton with ruffled details and a dramatic silhouette.
The sleeved dress was made of a dark grey-green silk crepe chiffon with smocked detail around the waist and a huge train. Work on the dress required more than 400 hours in the atelier, while over 50 meters of fabric were required to make the gown. All the frills on the skirt were overlayed, one on top of the other, forming micro frills – and Vikander wore custom matching undergarments complete the look.
