Riley Kate Gunter | Obituaries
Riley Kate Gunter danced into the arms of Jesus on Aug. 24, 2018, at the tender age of 8.
She was born June 26, 2010, in Hattiesburg to Joe and Jenny (Peck) Gunter of Laurel. She was a second-grader at Stringer Attendance Center. Riley was a special little girl whose favorite activities included cheering, riding four-wheelers and athletics; and she always enjoyed a good dance party.
She is survived by her parents Joe and Jenny; her sisters, Alley, 12, and Presley, 5; grandmother Cheryl Peck; great-grandmother Dorothy Marshall; and a host of friends who were her family.
Riley was preceded in death by her grandfather James David Gunter; great-grandfather Harold Bradshaw; and great-grandmother Marjalee Peck.
A celebration of Riley Kate’s life will be Monday, Aug. 27, with visitation at 2 p.m. and services at 4 at Pine Ridge Missionary Baptist Church in Laurel. Burial will be immediately afterward at Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Mize.
Pallbearers will be Cole and Caleb Jackson, Kris Lightsey, Todd and Landon Livingston and Ryan Masten. The family kindly requests all attending the celebration wear brightly colored clothes as a tribute to Riley Kate’s cheerful personality.

Riley will be forever remembered by those who loved her as a free-spirited, soulful little fashionista with a caring heart. She never wanted anyone to go without and she was always thinking of others. In honor of Riley’s thoughtful and generous nature, in lieu of flowers, donations of clothing, shoes, backpacks and school supplies can be made to Riley’s Closet, which is being established for those in need at Stringer Attendance Center. Contributions can be brought to the celebration or taken directly to Stringer Attendance Center.
