King Charles experts were right about royal dogs 'changing' when he took the throne
Queen Elizabeth II’s death came as a shock to the world, but one thing was always certain, King Charles was one day going to take the throne. Therefore, experts have been making predictions on what would change during his reign. Now, it’s been uncovered what actually has changed since Queen Elizabeth’s passing, and their predictions over King Charles’ choice of dogs were right about all along.
King Charles became the monarch after his mother, Queen Elizabeth II passed away in September 2022. Before this, many royal experts had predicted changes such as him not residing in Windsor Castle, or that he would not share his mother’s commitment to the Church of England, Robert Hardman states in his book, Charles III: New King. New Court. The Inside Story. After his reign of more than a year, these have been proved wrong, but they were right about one thing. The corgi era is well and truly over.

King Charles ‘replaces’ Corgi Era with Jack Russells
The Queen was famously known for her beloved Corgis, and from her accession in 1952, to her death in 2022, she raised at least 30 of them.
At the time of her death, the late monarch had two pure-bred corgis named Muick and Sandy. She also had a dorgi, a corgi-dachshund mix, called Candy, as well as a cocker spaniel named Lissy.
Following the Queen’s death, the Corgis were adopted by Prince Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson. Speaking to BBC Radio 2 in April 2023, Fergie, who was recently diagnosed with skin cancer, said the dogs were ‘really happy’.
“Their tails have gone up now so I think they’re over their grief,” Fergie told host Rylan Clark.
Whilst the Corgis are happy with his brother, Hardman writes the King and Queen Consort Camilla have two Jack Russells, Beth, and Bluebell, both rescued from Battersea Dogs and Cats home.
The royals are ‘dog lovers’

It’s not just the older generation of royals who have dogs as pets. In fact, Prince William and Kate Middleton have a black spaniel, named Orla.
Before becoming parents to Prince Harry and William, Charles and Princess Diana were first parents to pooch Harvey.
Unfortunately, Charles had to give up caring for the yellow Labrador, after the four-legged friend is “said to have sparked arguments between the couple,” according to biographer Penny Junor.
He then ended up staying with one of Charles’ advisors, as it’s also been claimed Diana found him “too smelly.”
